Hillsdale senior Brody Adams named the unanimous boys hoops 2024-25 Player of the Year

HILLSDALE — Readers and the Hillsdale Daily News both honored one Hillsdale County senior as the overall boys basketball player of the year.

Hillsdale senior Brody Adams was voted the reader's choice player of the year honoree with 65-percent of the total votes. In addition, he was our choice for the player of the year honor.

Adams helped lead the Hornets to the program's first Pool A title in years with wins over Jonesville and Reading, earning all-tourney honors. He then led the team to 12 regular season wins, including a district championship.

It was Hillsdale's first district title since 2018. The Hornets captured it with wins over Jonesville 58-52 and Hudson 62-57 in the title game. He had a season single-game high of 27 points in the district semifinal game against rival Jonesville, shooting five 3s, grabbing six defensive boards and taking three steals. He then had 12 points and four steals in the title game. In the regional semifinal, the senior almost led a comeback against Monroe St. Mary Catholic Central with 21 points, three 3s and five rebounds. The team ultimately fell in a close 70-66 final.

The senior averaged 13.12 points per game, 4.84 rebounds, 3.12 assists and 1.72 steals a game. He shot 58.39-percent from the field. He shot 31.45-percent from the arc and made 39 3s. In addition to his player of the year honors, he will also be a first team dream team honoree and was a second team all-LCAA honoree. He was named to the Michigan Sports Writers' Division 3 honorable mention all-state list.

Runners-Up: Caleb Blonde and Landon Monahan​


Jonesville sophomore was voted the runner-up reader's choice player of the year honoree. The Cascades all-league dream team honoree was one of the most dynamic scorers in Hillsdale County this year.

He led Jonesville to 12 wins this season with 16.9 points per game, a field-goal percentage of 34.4, a free throw percentage of 73.5 and a 3-point field goal percentage of 34.1. He averaged 2.5 steals, 3.4 boards and 2.6 assists per game. He had a season single-game high of 29 points. Like Adams, he was named D3 honorable mention all-state by the Michigan Sports Writers and will be a first-team all-area honoree.

The Hillsdale Daily News' runner-up player of the year honoree was Division 4 all-state honorable mention honoree Landon Monahan. Monahan was also a Pat Patterson all-tourney honoree this year and first team all-league SCAA East. He led the Spartans to an 18-7 overall record, including a 16-year drought-breaking district championship win. Monahan and the Spartans' path to the district title included a 45-21 win over North Adams and a 36-22 win over Pittsford.

The team eventually fell to state quarterfinalist Lenawee Christian in the regional round. He had single-game highs of 29 and 28 points this season. He averaged 14.4 points, six boards and three assists per game this season. He shot 72.7-percent from the free throw line.

Honorable Mentions​

  • Thomas Maier - Senior - Will Carleton Academy: Senior captain Thomas Maier would help bring back a championship to the Will Carleton Academy boys basketball program in his final year with the Cougars. Not only did the Cougars bring home a CAC conference championship, their first league title since 2013, the team set a new program record for wins in a season. Maier helped the Cougars to a 17-6 overall record this season, including an undefeated 8-0 run in the Crossroads Athletic Conference. Maier finished the season with 13.5 points, 6.1 rebounds, 4.3 steals and four assists per game.
    • He finished his career as a 1,000-point scorer, and he earned WCA records for steals in a game (13), steals in a season (105), steals in a career (282), and 3 pointers in a career (117). He earned first team all-league and Pat Patterson Pool B all-tournament honors. He had a single-game high of 34 points this season.
  • Mikey Plemmons - Senior - Hillsdale Academy: After an incredible senior season at goalie for the Colts soccer team, senior Mikey Plemmons followed it up with a stellar year for the Academy boys basketball team. The senior led the Colts to a sixth straight SCAA East championship with a 14-0 record in league play. The team won 18 games, including a run to the Pat Patterson Pool B championship. He earned Pool B MVP honors.
    • Plemmons helped lead the Colts to a 56-30 win over Reading in round one of the district semifinals. The senior had 13.3 points per game, 4.1 assists per game and 2.6 points per game. He had a single-game high of 31 points. Plemmons was named the SCAA East MVP all-league honoree.
