Alabama football offensive coordinator and play caller Ryan Grubb spent Saturday's 56-0 win over Eastern Illinois on the home sideline, a departure from his normal seat in the press box.

Why the change? The FCS opponent presented a low-risk chance to try something different, but it remains to be seen whether Grubb will be on the field or box-seated next week when the Crimson Tide travels to Auburn for the Iron Bowl.

"It's something he's been thinking about here for awhile now. Communication, trying to see if there's a way where ... you're always trying to make things better. It wasn't bad before, but it's something different," coach Kalen DeBoer said. "Today was a good opportunity to do that, so we'll hash that out and see what we want to do moving forward. I thought it was good, though; the communication, it was really good. There's an impact he makes when he's around the players. They feed off of him."

Grubb is in his first year as Alabama's offensive coordinator. Although the UA offense moved the ball effectively last week in a loss to Oklahoma, it struggled with three turnovers. The previous week, it was inconsistent in a 20-9 win over LSU. Auburn has one of the top defenses in the SEC.

The Crimson Tide (9-2) will play the archrival Tigers at 6:30 p.m. Saturday (ABC) at Jordan-Hare Stadium.
