Heat trade for Giannis Antetokounmpo reaches pivotal moment originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The Miami Heat seem to have been chasing after Giannis Antetokounmpo all along.
Now, it's crunch time. If the Heat are going to trade for the Milwaukee Bucks' superstar, it probably has to happen soon.
That's in large part because the 2026 NBA Draft begins on Tuesday night.
The draft is a logical time for the Bucks to trade Giannis -- if they know what draft picks specifically they're getting in return, that can help facilitate a deal.
So that means that for the Heat, it might be now or never.
Reports indicate the Boston Celtics are still in the picture, too, but a lot of the other names that were rumored during the season before the trade deadline haven't been brought up much now.

While there's always a mystery team, it seems, this also looks a lot like a two-team race between the Heat and Celtics.
Boston can offer Jaylen Brown, but it's not clear what they'd be giving up besides him.
The Heat can offer Tyler Herro, Kel'el Ware and go from there.
The Bucks are unlikely to get a perfect offer, but in the context that they know it's probably time to trade Giannis, they'll be seeking out the best offer.
Anything Miami can do to sweeten their proposal a bit is worth trying. The clock might be ticking on getting a deal over the line.
The Heat often take big swings on star players. The Big Three was the major example, of course, but even bringing aboard Jimmy Butler made a big difference for a few years for the Heat.
Giannis would be a huge addition and change the entire balance of power in the Eastern Conference. If they want him, it might have to be now.
