The Miami Heat have been active in free agency this summer and still have some work to do before filling out their roster. Miami’s biggest move of the offseason was completing the blockbuster trade for Giannis Antetokounmpo.

Since then, the Heat have been linked to several veteran names who could join Antetokounmpo in Miami. Klay Thompson has been one of the players the Heat have shown the most interest in.

“My understanding is that Thompson would welcome a return to Los Angeles, where he spent part of his childhood and still owns a home. The Miami Heat are another team frequently mentioned in NBA circles as a potential landing spot for the future Hall of Famer," The Athletic's Christian Clark wrote.

However, Thompson is not the only veteran the Heat have checked in on over the past month. Miami has also received significant buzz as a potential landing spot for DeMar DeRozan.

“Miami Heat have been a Derozan landing spot for years now, there's been so much connectivity between him and the Heat and I do think the Heat seem to be the most likely scenario for DeMar DeRozan right now…Miami is probably his best bet…those other spots really don't have spending power," The Stein Line's Jake Fischer said.

The Heat are pursuing three veterans for their final two roster spots. Bradley Beal, Thompson and DeRozan are the three players currently being considered.

“Because of the Heat working this season under a hard cap created by the machinations required for the Antetokounmpo acquisition, a deliberate approach is required for the final two standard roster spots. Among those reportedly being considered by the Heat for those two roster spots are Bradley Beal, DeMar DeRozan and Klay Thompson, should he become available from the Dallas Mavericks by trade or with a buyout,” Sun Sentinel’s Ira Winderman wrote.

Whichever two players Miami ultimately decides to add would be significant additions from an offensive standpoint and would further bolster the roster. All three veterans are in the latter stages of their careers, but each could still contribute to the Heat in a meaningful way.

Beal, DeRozan and Thompson have combined to earn $945 million in career contracts, which speaks to the longevity and success they have had throughout their NBA careers. The Heat would benefit from whichever two players they ultimately land, but it appears the organization is focused on these three veterans to fill its final roster spots.
