The Boston Celtics' hopes of repeating as champions took a hit on Monday night, as they suffered a 121-113 defeat to the New York Knicks in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals. This loss pushes the defending champions on the brink of elimination, as they will now need to win out to advance to the Conference Finals.

The most critical point in the game came late in the fourth quarter when Jayson Tatum, who had amassed 42 points, suffered a non-contact injury to his right leg while pursuing a loose ball. He was unable to put weight on the leg and was assisted off the court, later seen being transported in a wheelchair.

Celtics star Jaylen Brown contributed 20 points in the Game 4 loss, but was not his usual self as he turned the ball over four times and shot just 2-for-8 from three. After the game, Brown admitted he and everyone else is at a loss for words right now in light of Tatum's injury.

"Tonight is tough," he said. "I think everybody’s at a loss for words."

Not only did Brown struggled to find words after Tatum's injury, but he was noticeably quieter than normal when speaking with reporters.

As the Celtics prepare for a must-win Game 5 at TD Garden, the potential absence of Tatum puts them in a precarious situation. Already down 3-1, Boston will have to do what no team has done since 2019 to advance to their fourth consecutive Eastern Conference Finals and keep their hopes of consecutive NBA titles alive.

The series returns to TD Garden for Game 5 on Wednesday.
