Atlanta Hawks' Dyson Daniels earned a much-deserved win with the 2025 Most Improved Player award. He was a finalist, along with Los Angeles Clippers center Ivica Zubac and Detroit Pistons star Cade Cunningham. Throughout the 2024-25 season, the Australian guard showcased what he can do on the floor.
Daniels made a name for himself in his first campaign with the Hawks. Mostly, it was his defensive tenacity that was highlighted. He went from averaging 1.4 steals with the New Orleans Pelicans to 3.0 this year.
Daniels also showed obvious development in other areas of his game. He improved his scoring from 5.8 to 14.1. There was a slight improvement in his efficiency beyond the arc. The 6-foot-7 shooting guard shot 31.1% from deep with the Pelicans and improved to 34% this season.

On Wednesday, he received the George Mikan Trophy and was interviewed on TNT's Inside the NBA. Daniels said he believes he can win the award again. He mentioned the potential next step in his improvement, to be an All-Star.
"I really believe I could win this award twice because I’ve got so much more left in me. For me, it’s gonna be about taking that next step, next year, and setting new goals. I want to be an All-Star in this league and I want to be a championship player," Daniels said.
Aside from the MIP award, Daniels was also considered to win the Defensive Player of the Year. Atlanta's Great Barrier Thief was among the finalists for the award. However, he lost to the Cleveland Cavaliers star Evan Mobley.
