Associate head coach Brad Davidson is leaving the University of Hawaii men’s basketball team after five years to become an assistant coach at USC.
“I love Hawaii — the people, everyone at UH,” said Davidson, who also served as the Rainbow Warriors’ offensive coordinator. “It’s going to be hard for our family to leave. We’ve grown great friendships in the community and through UH. I’m thankful. Hawaii will always be part of our family.”
Davidson also expressed gratitude to UH head coach Eran Ganot.
“He’s been unbelievable to me,” Davidson said. “He gave me a great opportunity to run the offense. He lets us coach. I have a lot to thank him for.”
Davidson, who grew up in Australia, also was an influential recruiter. He led the way in signing three key players of this year’s Big West Tournament champions — posts Harry Rouhliadeff and Gytis Nemeiksa and wing Quandre “Dre” Bullock.
“Brad’s success comes at no surprise to anyone that has ever had the pleasure to work with him,” UH assistant coach Gibson Johnson said. “He has incredible work ethic and cares deeply about his family, the coaches and the players around him. We have developed an amazing friendship and I will be rooting for him as he takes on the Big Ten at USC.”
Davidson is succeeding one of his mentors. Davidson was an assistant under Todd Lee at South Dakota. Lee, who was an assistant coach at USC the past two seasons, recently was named head coach at Cal State Bakersfield.
