AUBURN — Tahaad Pettiford appears much closer to giving Auburn basketball a yes than a no in regard to whether or not he'll return for next season. But he's technically given the program neither.
Less than 24 hours after Auburn's season ended with a 79-73 loss to Florida in the Final Four, Pettiford was one of a few Tigers to speak at a team send-off upon their return from San Antonio at Neville Arena.

"I hope to come back next year and run it back again," he said. However, that was counter to what he'd said immediately following the loss. His response to his own words' circulation was also counter to it.
Pettiford said in the Alamodome that he wasn't yet able to speak on whether he'd return for the 2025-26 season. After his message Sunday began making rounds on social media, Pettiford responded to three different posts on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, that took his words as definitive.
It's likely Pettiford is mulling a decision of whether or not to test NBA Draft waters. He's currently projected as a late first-round selection by some, with Yahoo Sports' Kevin O'Connor comparing him to both Mike Conley and Brandon Jennings.
Should Pettiford go one-and-done, the Tigers would be without their third-leading scorer next year. He averaged 11.6 points per game and 3.0 assists this season while shooting 42.1% from the field and 36.6% from deep.
"He's been sensational all season long," Bruce Pearl said of Pettiford on Saturday. "If he had a better coach, he'd have gotten cleaner looks, and he would have had a few more open shots. That probably would have helped him play a little better. If there are five of the top freshmen in college basketball this year, Tahaad Pettiford is absolutely one of them. I'm so incredibly proud of him. I know his teammates are. I trust him."
