Here are the Montreal Canadiens news items, stories, and content you may have missed on Thursday.

Montreal Canadiens News

Head coach Martin St-Louis had nothing but good things to say about Jacob Fowler’s play versus the Ottawa Senators. All things considered, the narrative that Fowler stole the game was a little exaggerated, as the Canadiens created more high-danger chances than the Senators, but there’s no doubt that he provided a calm, confident approach, which is always a bonus in professional sports. Alex Texier did a great job replacing Cole Caufield in a pinch, however, you could argue that Texier deserves to be in the lineup, regardless of whether Caufield is available. The numbers point to a player who has done everything possible to earn more ice time with his new team. [Canadiens Analysis: Texier Impressive Impact Impossible To Ignore]

I’ll be honest, I haven’t kept a close eye on the NHL “Super 16” rankings this season, but it seems like they’ve caught on that the Canadiens keep finding ways to win, despite being the youngest team in the NHL.

Speaking of the NHL, they also sent some praise Bryce Pickford’s way. In case you’ve somehow missed it, Pickford is just one goal off the league lead, while having missed some games this season. Oh, and he’s a defenceman.

Bryce Pickford has 43 goals AS A DEFENSEMAN

That's the most by a CHL defenseman this century and the fourth-most all-time!

The @CanadiensMTL prospect also has three hat tricks and nine multi-goal games this season…

Hmmm, I’m not sure, but I would guess the bigger playoff threat is the team that is actually on track to make the playoffs.

Canadiens or Senators, who is bigger playoff threat?

Captain Mark Stone might not return to the lineup on Thursday when his Vegas Golden Knights host the Pittsburgh Penguins. His appearance at morning skate, however, gave the team a much-needed morale boost. Stone missed the last six games after suffering an upper-body injury against the Penguins on March 1st. He skated with the team for the first time on Thursday, wearing a red non-contact jersey, but taking line rushes in his usual spot alongside Jack Eichel and Ivan Barbashev. [Vegas Golden Knights]

The Detroit Red Wings must figure out how to survive part of the playoff push without Dylan Larkin. Detroit will be without Larkin for at least two weeks due to a lower-body injury, as said by head coach Todd McLellan. Larkin left Detroit’s game against the Florida Panthers on Friday, March 6 after his leg buckled awkwardly. [Detroit Red Wings]

The National Hockey League has announced a modification to the disciplinary sanction previously imposed on the Ottawa Senators related to their involvement in the July 2021 trade of forward Evgenii Dadonov (now with the New Jersey Devils) to the Vegas Golden Knights, as well as the subsequent March 2022 trade attempt by the Golden Knights to the Anaheim Ducks, which was invalidated by the League.
