The Guardians kicked off the season series against the Tigers with a bang last night, winning 8-2.

I provided a recap here. I neglected to mention Austin Hedges picking off yet another runner at first base. When confronted with a pitching staff that struggles to contain the run game, Hedges has apparently decided “I will do this myself.” Slade Cecconi extolled his battery-mate’s abilities in this department postgame:

AROUND MLB:

The Royals and White Sox lost, but the Twins won. The Twins optioned Royce Lewis.

Gio Urshela retired. Seems like a great dude but I have zero positive memories of him as a baseball player. I hope he has a great rest of his life, though. Nice, little career… but not here.
