When we consider the greatest performances in the history of the Super Bowl, a few USC football legends immediately come to mind. One is Lynn Swann, whose performance for the Pittsburgh Steelers in Super Bowl X against the Dallas Cowboys is in the conversation for the greatest Super Bowl displays of all time.

Lynn Swann made his reputation in this game. He cemented it three years later, also against the Cowboys, in Super Bowl XIII. This was the game which established Swann's identity as a receiver who made the biggest and toughest plays in the biggest games of his career. It is the definition of excellence under pressure, the height of achievement and competitive brilliance in an athlete.

What is crazy about Lynn Swann's performance in Super Bowl X is that he made one iconic catch, another for a long-ball touchdown which sealed the Steelers' victory, and then made two other well-above-average catches which would have been all-timers in most situations, but were dwarfed by the other incredible plays he made. Swann caught four passes for 161 yards, that's 40.25 yards a catch. Lynn Swann simply made huge plays. He didn't do anything pedestrian in Super Bowls. He was regularly spectacular, the central and defining part of his legacy as an NFL player and a Steeler, forming the heart of a dynastic run which produced four Super Bowl championships in a six-season span (1974-1979).
