Stephen Eustaquio, in second-half stoppage time, from outside the 18-yard box, a brilliant right-footed strike to stun South Africa in the World Cup Round of 32.

With elimination on the line, and with Canada having never won a World Cup knockout game, Eustaquio delivered a moment that will be remembered for a long time.

It was a moment generations in the making.

Canada has built up its soccer program through the decades, but never before had there been a goal like this one.

The historic check boxes have been notched over time -- goal to clinch a World Cup spot, goal to clinch a World Cup point, goal to clinch a World Cup win.

But a goal to advance deeper into a World Cup bracket? Never before.

And frankly, it looked like it wasn't coming.

For 90 minutes, Canada and South Africa didn't have quality in the attacking areas. They ran hard, worked hard, created some chances -- but no one came all that close to scoring.

But this was the man who led Canada onto the pitch. He wore the captain's armband before taking it off when Alphonso Davies subbed into the game.
