It's the second day of the NFL's legal tampering period, and the New York Giants aren't wasting any time. After a flurry of activity on Monday, Joe Schoen and Jim Harbaugh aren't done bringing in players.
The moves continued on Tuesday with NFL insider Jordan Schultz reporting that the Giants are signing cornerback Greg Newsome II to a one-year contract.
The six-year veteran cornerback is a former first-round draft pick by the Cleveland Browns in 2021. He played five seasons with the Browns before they traded him to the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2025. In 2026, he will don a new shade of blue when he arrives in New York.
Last year with the Jaguars, Newsome had 29 tackles (23 solo), one interception, and six passes defensed. With the loss of Cor'Dale Flott to the Tennessee Titans on Monday, the Giants needed to find a suitable replacement, and fast. Newsome fits that bill, and he immediately improves the cornerbacks' room with his presence.
This deal cannot be made official until the start of the league year on Wednesday afternoon, but the two sides have agreed to terms that should make it a simple signature when the time comes.
