The New York Giants made a slew of personnel moves this offseason, many of them made to fit the vision of incoming head coach John Harbaugh and his staff.

One particular transaction of note, per NFL Network analyst Bucky Brooks, was that of fullback Patrick Ricard, a six-time Pro Bowler who played for Harbaugh with the Ravens in Baltimore. Ricard will be the first pure fullback to play for the Giants since Chris Myarick in 2022.

Brooks labeled the signing among his "overlooked that could pay dividends" list.

Ricard's contract: Two years, $7.63 million with a maximum value of $8.5 million.

John Harbaugh might have tipped his hand on his offensive approach with the signing of the six-time Pro Bowl fullback. Over nine seasons, the knockdown specialist known as "Pancake Pat" has served as the lead blocker for the Ravens' dominant ground game. He'll now join his former head coach in New York, where the Giants appear to be transitioning into a power running attack with Cam Skattebo positioned as the featured back. Ricard, a defensive former defensive tackle-turned-fullback, could further elevate an offense that was fifth in rushing yards last season, serving as the pivotal piece to the puzzle in 2026 and beyond.

Ricard, who is 6-foot-3 and weighs in at 300 pounds, is a defensive lineman by trade. He was converted to fullback by Harbaugh in Baltimore. He told reporters this week that he would have followed Harbaugh no matter where he went, even to a Pop Warner team. Harbaugh chose the Giants, so it only made sense for Ricard to choose them, too.

It is Ricard's goal to be that ultimate team player. He dedicates himself to helping his teammates achieve success.

"I've garnished the nickname 'Pancake Pat' because I pride myself in how physical I am, the point of attack and pancaking defenders, and if I can continue to do that, that's all I care about," he said.

"It does not bother me if I don't get the ball at all. Sometimes I'd rather have these other guys get the balls because they're just, to be honest, they're better. They're more explosive. They can run a lot faster than me, you know, I'm 300 pounds. So, I'd rather have the ball in their hands and me blocking for them.

"But, yeah, sometimes it's nice to get the ball and make a play for the team. But I'm okay with either, either option you want to do."

Blocking for another physical back in Cam Skattebo this year should have opponents on high alert. Ricard gave a quick preview to reporters this week.

"It's going to look like a lot of yards and a lot of touchdowns," he said. "It's going to be just physicality all over the place. It's going to just be exactly what the people want to see."
