Giants' Luis Arraez gets trade projection from ESPN insider that would be a 'shock' originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The San Francisco Giants are the most obvious trade deadline seller this summer of any team, as the disappointing franchise should do its best to build for the future.
This iteration of the Giants isn't good enough to win it all, and if they can rebuild from here, it would help make up for the major letdown that was this boldly constructed roster.
With the deadline right around the corner, ESPN's Jorge Castillo shared a simple projection for the Giants with Luis Arraez, revealing that it would be a "shock" if the second baseman wasn't playing for a new team by the deadline.
It would be a 'shock' if Luis Arraez wasn't traded by Giants
"One of the few is San Francisco, and it would be a shock if Arraez, the Giants' All-Star second baseman, is still in black and orange come Aug. 4," Castillo writes. "... But Arraez is the surest All-Star-caliber player on the move for now."
Castillo seems certain that the Giants will trade Arraez, and there's good reason for him to believe so strongly that such a future will come to pass.
It would be a major mistake for the Giants to not trade Arraez. The only way he could stick with the Giants would be if they signed him to a long-term deal. That isn't likely at all, considering all of the money tied up in their roster right now.

The only realistic option this summer is for the Giants to trade Arraez to a contender, with the Tampa Bay Rays as one of the more obvious landing spots.
While the $12 million All-Star second baseman, who's hitting .330 with 3.1 bWAR this season, coming out of the All-Star break, won't land a massive return, the package they could get would be a lot better than losing him in free agency for nothing.
Giants fans should expect to see Arraez traded, as this ESPN insider noted it would be a "shock" if Arraez is with the Giants past the August 3 trade deadline.
