The New York Giants made a plethora of free-agent signings this offseason, but one of the most important ones was undoubtedly the addition of wide receiver Darnell Mooney.
Given the uncertainty surrounding Malik Nabers and the Giants' lack of depth in their receiving corps overall, the team's decision to acquire Mooney — especially on a cheap $3 million guaranteed salary — seemed like a slam dunk.
After all, Mooney put together a 1,000-yard campaign with the Chicago Bears back in 2021, and he finished just shy of another one with the Atlanta Falcons two years ago.
Yes, Mooney's career has been rather unstable, and he didn't have a great season in 2025. But at his best, the 28-year-old is a terrific vertical threat.
However, things aren't going too well for Mooney in training camp.
The former fifth-round pick hasn't been awful, but he also hasn't stood out, which has resulted in Giants insider Ed Valentine revealing that Mooney could potentially be on the roster bubble as we inch closer to cutdown day.

Let me just say this: I highly doubt that New York will cut Mooney. Again, the Giants don't have the receiver depth for that.
Nabers, Mooney, Darius Slayton, Calvin Austin III and Malachi Fields all figure to be roster locks, and Odell Beckham Jr. is stating his case to earn the sixth — and likely final — wide receiver slot.
If anything, Austin — who has never been anything more than a decent slot receiver — should be in the most danger out of the main five, and let's be real here: who is going to usurp Mooney for a roster spot? Jalin Hyatt?
JuJu Smith-Schuster is battling with Beckham for that last receiver spot, but he has been dealing with a knee injury that has inhibited him. Chances are, he isn't upstaging Mooney.
As for Hyatt, the Giants have seen him for three years. Yes, I understand that John Harbaugh wasn't around at that time, but surely, Harbaugh isn't going to be fooled by the University of Tennessee product having a decent training camp.
Mooney entered the offseason program with a great chance to snag the Giants' No. 2 receiver role behind Nabers. Clearly, he has fallen a bit behind, but I would be very surprised if New York released him.
I actually still believe that Mooney could develop into a very strong weapon for Jaxson Dart in Big Blue's offense, so I fully anticipate that he will be out on the field in Week 1.
