Giants' asking price for Dexter Lawrence revealed as Pro Bowler demands trade originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
Dexter Lawrence has been a franchise cornerstone of the New York Giants for years but it's looking like the dawn of a new day.
In the wake the star defensive tackle requesting a trade, a new report has been released that Lawrence has wanted a fresh start since the beginning of last year.
Now fans in The Big Apple just have to wait to see if one of their defensive leaders is heading elsewhere.
New report reveals Dexter Lawrence's trade value
ESPN reporter Jordan Raanan revealed a couple key points on Thursday regarding Lawrence's trade value.
He reports that the "feeling around league is he's underpaid on current deal," referring to the DT. Lawrence is currently in the third year of a 4-year, $90 million contract. At the time, he was the third highest-paid at his position. Now, he sits 12th on the list of highest paid defensive tackles annually.
While Lawrence may be looking for a pay raise, his current contract makes his value higher. Raanan reports that New York is seeking "a lot" in a trade for the star.
So what does "a lot" mean? Well, the most recent, notable trade for a defensive tackle was when the Jets sent Quinnen Williams to Dallas for a 1st round pick, 2nd round pick, and DT Mazi Smith.
Lawrence could fetch a similar asking price depending on if the team acquiring him is willing to extend his current deal.
Raanan also reported that the Giants have had discussions with other teams about trading Lawrence. It's a deal that New York is motivated to get done but at the right price.
As we get closer and closer to training camp, expect more reports to circulate surrounding Lawrence's future in New York.
