Germany's Gose wins 3km open water gold at European championships

Germany's Isabel Gose won open water gold in the women's three-kilometre sprint on Friday at the European Aquatics Championships.

Gose led from start to finish to complete the course in 6 minutes 41.0 seconds, beating Hungary's Bettina Fabian by 3.1 seconds. Italian Ginevra Taddeucci took bronze.

Before the event, there were concerns about the water quality in the River Seine.

Practice on the previous day was cancelled after oil or fuel was seen in the river. However, the most recent measurements for water quality showed that no limit values had been exceeded.

Following an additional visual inspection on Friday morning, the races were allowed to take place.
