Georgia Bulldogs offensive coordinator Mike Bobo was one of the finalists for the Broyles Award, given out to the best assistant coach in the nation. He ultimately lost the award to Indiana Hoosiers defensive coordinator Bryant Haines.
Bobo was a finalist along with Haines, Ohio State defensive coordinator Matt Patricia, Texas Tech defensive coordinator Shiel Wood and Miami defensive coordinator Corey Hetherman. By virtue of being the only Broyles Award offensive coordinator to be a finalist, Bobo is considered the nation's best offensive coordinator.
Haines and the Hoosiers became the first undefeated national champion team since the 2023 Michigan Wolverines. They had the second-best scoring defense in the league, allowing just 11.7 points per game. He developed defensive tackle Tyrique Tucker, cornerback D'Angelo Ponds, safety Louis Moore, and will linebacker Rolijah Hardy into first-team All Big-Ten talent, and Indiana's defense allowed just 46 points in their three playoff games.
Bobo, meanwhile, rebounded the Georgia offense in a big way from 2024. His offense was ranked 28th in the nation in points per game (32.1). Gunner Stockton earned the seventh-most votes for the Heisman trophy, and Zachariah Branch set a Georgia record for most receptions in a season. Bobo helped UGA win a second straight SEC championship. Unfortunately, the Bulldogs came up short with a loss to Ole Miss in the Sugar Bowl, but there's a lot of optimism surrounding Georgia's offense entering 2026.

On getting recognized for the job he did this season
"I appreciate that, but it's not all me. We've got a great coaching staff that do an unbelievable job. We've got former coordinators in that room, guys that are just selfless. And the players, the commitment to what they do every day, to go on the field and play for the University of Georgia. In this day and era where sometimes it's about the individual, credit our players, credit our head coach for representing Georgia the right way."
On the full-circle moment of watching Gunner Stockton grow up to coaching him
"It's kind of surreal. My dad was my high school coach, and I go to University of Georgia. He ends up retiring from being a head coach in a town in south Georgia, Thomasville, and goes and works for a guy up in Rabun County, Sonny Smart — Kirby Smart's dad. In that town was a young Gunner Stockton, who was a little kid and would come around the field house of Rabun County and grew up and wanted to be a quarterback. My dad was there and kind of took him under his wing and kind of helped train him early on. My dad does not deserve all the credit, does not want all the credit. Gunner is who he is because he's an unbelievable family, how he works, his toughness, he's selfless, he's humble, just a joy to coach."
On career transition from Georgia quarterback to Georgia offensive coordinator
"I've been blessed. Blessed to be in this profession, blessed to be raised by a high coach. My dad, George Bobo, was a high school coach. The men that influenced me in this journey were high school coaches, and all I ever wanted to do was be a high school coach.
"And then having to play at the University of Georgia, having that opportunity got my foot in the door in college coaching. I was blessed to be a GA then went to Jacksonville State in Alabama. And Mark Richt gets the job at the University of Georgia, and he's looking for a young coach to basically be his GA. And it helped that my dad was a high school coach in the state of Georgia.
"I got my foot in the door there at the University of Georgia. To have him let me grow, let me learn there at the University of Georgia and to turn the reins over to me in 2007 and go through ups and downs, I can't say enough about him. Coach Richt, Coach Donnan, the men in my life, they've given me an opportunity.
"I'm blessed, and that's what coaching is about. We're trying to affect players, but we're also coaches. We're trying to help these young coaches grow and get to where they want to go."
