Northeastern Preview:

  • The Eagles were swept by the Huskies back in October, losing 4-1 and 3-0.
  • On offense, junior Dylan Hryckowian leads the Huskies with 34 points in 27 games, followed by freshman Jacob Mathieu who has 26 points in 29 games.
  • In net, Lawton Zacher has a .932 save percentage in 29 games, while Quentin Sigurdson has a .920.
  • The Huskies’ power play stands at 19.6%, while their penalty kill is at 85.7%.

What to Watch For:

  • No offense. Suddenly this year is looking eerily like the end of last year when the offense simply dried up for no real reason. The Eagles have three goals in the last twelve periods, and only one of those is an even strength goal. Just two weeks ago, the Eagles defeated UConn 5-2 at home and 2-1 in Hartford and basically had the perfect weekend. Since then, the team has not looked as dominant, and it’s not immediately clear why. You cannot win games without scoring goals, regardless of how many saves your goalie may or may not have made.
  • The loss to UMass was an absolute gut punch to the Eagles’ NPI standing, and they likely will have to make it far in the Hockey East tournament if not win it outright in order to make the NCAA tournament. I’m sure the team already knows their precarious standing, but it hasn’t lit a fire under them – yet. There’s time to right the ship if they can go back to playing how they were at the end of January and beginning of February. And there’s no better time to start than a night honoring the senior class.
