With Los Angeles Dodgers fan favorite Kiké Hernández significantly injured, infielder Alex Freeland is back up from the minors, and manager Dave Roberts says he’ll get a chance to show his stuff.
Freeland was sent down earlier this month when Mookie Betts returned from injury — coincidentally, also an oblique injury — but has since been excelling for the Triple-A Oklahoma City Comets.

Kim, who kept his MLB roster spot when Freeland was sent down but who has struggled recently, was actually already being considered for demotion before Hernández tore his oblique muscle.

Hernández said after the game Tuesday that he’d experienced the strain during batting practice on Monday, before he made his season debut.
Despite that, he played through it, hitting 4-for-4 with two doubles and a home run in limited action before he was forced to exit his second game after reaching base during his second at-bat.
He initially expressed hope that it was a low-grade strain, but news emerged Wednesday afternoon that it was a more serious tear.
It’s unknown how long he’ll be sidelined, which must be tough after missing the first third of the season already.
How do you think Alex Freeland will play in Kiké Hernández’s absence?
