New York Mets infielder Francisco Lindor
The New York Mets have one of the best shortstops in baseball in Francisco Lindor, but could that change by the time the 2026 Major League Baseball season comes to an end?
First and foremost, it shouldn't. There are few shortstops in the league better than Lindor when he's healthy. Last season, he slashed .267/.346/.466 with an .811 OPS, 31 homers, 86 RBIs, and 31 stolen bases in 160 games played. He was a 5.8-WAR player. The year before, he was a 6.8-WAR player. He also won't be a free agent until after the 2031 season. There's no reason for the Mets to move on from one of the best shortstops in the game, but sports radio host Mike Francesca went deep down the rabbit hole and claimed that the Mets are going to try "very, very hard to trade Lindor."
“The Cohens loved him, Cohen’s wife loved him. And then they went out and brought in a guy who more than doubled his salary, which hit him right between the eyes, and I’m going to tell you something, it would have hit a lot of stars between the eyes. … So, where does that leave you? I don’t think there’s any question the Mets are going to try very, very hard to trade Lindor," Francesca said.
One thing that should give Mets fans hope is the fact that The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal shut down the noise.

"With all due respect to Mike, he is not a beat reporter, and I haven't seen this from any of the beat reporters," Rosenthal said.
The Mets are having a bad season, and that's in part because Lindor has been hurt. There's no reason to move him.
