Fox Sports has announced that Mexico's all-time leading scorer Javier “Chicharito" Hernández will join the network's 2026 World Cup coverage.
Hernández, 37, will be making his TV debut during a tournament in which Mexico will serve as co-host alongside the United States and Canada.
“When the opportunity came to join a great company like Fox Sports and cover the FIFA World Cup this summer, it was a no brainer,” Hernández said in a news release.
“I’m a rookie, so I expect to have fun as an analyst and learn, but really I just want to share my perspective on how I see the beautiful game and sport that I’ve been playing my entire life with fans watching at home.”
After a successful career abroad with Manchester United, Real Madrid, Sevilla, Bayer Leverkusen and West Ham, Hernández returned to North America with the LA Galaxy in 2020. He then returned to boyhood club Chivas in 2024, departing at the end of last year. He is currently a free agent.
Hernández joins other big-name Fox hires for the World Cup, including Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Thierry Henry and host Rebecca Lowe.
“Chicharito is synonymous with El Tri and with Mexico playing a major role in the tournament, we wanted to make sure we found voices who bring instant international credibility to our coverage,” said Fox Sports president and executive producer Brad Zager.
“We’re thrilled to have him going from striker to studio analyst in his television commentator debut with Fox Sports.”
Hernández scored 52 goals in 109 appearances from 2009 to 2019 with the Mexico men's national team. The striker played at the World Cup in 2010, 2014 and 2018, scoring goals in all three tournaments.
Fox Sports will confirm its full broadcast lineup as the World Cup gets closer.
