There were big questions following Dusty May's departure two weeks ago for the NBA, namely who would remain in Ann Arbor after he abdicated the headship of the program. In recent days, a flurry of Wolverines revealed that they're remaining with Michigan basketball, and among them are incoming recruits as well as transfers.
Among those who announced that they're staying with the program is former four-star Joseph Hartman, the 6-foot-6, 193-pound shooting guard who was rated by the 247Sports Composite as the No. 92 player in the 2026 recruiting class, regardless of position. The Gainesville (Fla.) Rock School standout was an early signee for the maize and blue, and despite the uncertainty with the program, he has opted to remain in Ann Arbor, he announced over the holiday weekend.
Despite being a first-year player, Hartman has an opportunity to see the court early. May had spoken of him in the offseason, noting that his capability and versatility should allow him to find playing time in his freshman campaign.
"Hartman is a very well-rounded basketball player," May said. "He can check a lot of boxes. He's played a lot of positions. So anytime you have positional versatility, you come from the stock that Joseph comes from, as far as his dad being a coach, it gives him a leg up over the typical freshman."
Hartman joins fellow freshmen Lincoln Cosby and Brandon McCoy Jr. as first-year players who have chosen to honor their original commitment despite the sudden change.
