Danhausen’s ‘very nice, very evil’ rise up the WWE popularity ladder has been nothing short of remarkable.
After making his WWE debut at Elimination Chamber earlier this year, the former AEW talent has now become the second top merchandise seller in TKO’s company.
He is even gaining mainstream popularity and was invited to watch the New York Knicks’ win over the Cleveland Cavaliers last month.
But in a recent interview, former WWE Champion John Bradshaw Layfield admitted he thought Danhausen had a horrible start to life with the company.

Danhausen has won JBL over
As mentioned, he made his debut at the Elimination Chamber PLE, but when he emerged, the fan reaction was null to say the least.
However, JBL suggested that the character has grown on him, and even referred to Danhausen as a ‘megastar’ when speaking on the Something To Wrestle With podcast.
As quoted by 411mania, he said: “You saw his debut, and I thought it was horrible. I was with everybody else. I didn’t think it was that good.
“I knew he would be a star, or at least I felt confident he would. I felt once people got to know him. It’s just so hard to see this and understand kind of what it is, even after you’ve seen it for several months, you really don’t know what it is. I think that’s part of the appeal of Danhausen, but I think when people saw it, they didn’t really understand it and thought, ‘Aw, this thing’s terrible.’”
JBL credits Triple H with a role in Danhausen’s success
In the months since that underwhelming debut, Danhausen has become a clear fan favourite.
His character may be silly, but at times, that is exactly what wrestling fans want.
JBL went on to explain how Triple H is exactly the right person to be in charge so that Danhausen can have success.
He continued: “I didn’t think it was that great, but I really felt like you give Danhausen the opportunity and some very creative people. You know, Hunter [Triple H] is very good about characters like this, about helping characters like this.
“Not that Danhausen needs help, but Hunter is very good about setting the table for them to allow them to have this success.”
With Night of Champions the next PLE in the WWE calendar, it will be interesting to see if Danhausen is given a role in the show after he was left off the Clash in Italy card.
