The football lull is set to hit us, as our last grasp of football for a long period is here, with OTAs now underway around the league. During this time, we can begin to look back on what has been a fascinating offseason around the NFL and analyze what moves teams made and find their best and worst decisions. According to Bill Barnwell of ESPN, one AFC South team brought in a former Minnesota Viking, who turned out to potentially be their worst move.
Former Vikings offensive linemen Ed Ingram was traded from Minnesota to the Houston Texans back in 2024 for a sixth-round pick. His play in Minnesota was subpar at best, as he was benched and ultimately moved to Houston. While his run blocking improved, Barnwell questions the decision to hand him a three-year, $37.5 million extension.
"Among the various moves Caserio made up front a year ago, trading a sixth-round pick to the Vikings for Ingram might have been his biggest success. Ingram had been a liability in Minnesota and was benched midway through the 2024 season, but he was able to start 14 games for the Texans in 2025. Ingram improved as a run blocker from what we saw in Minnesota -- but he was still a serious liability in pass protection, where the former second-round pick struggled with his base and was too easy to shed at the line of scrimmage."
Ingram may not be a perfect player, but the Vikings were done with him, and he has rejuvenated himself with the Texans and nearly made a Super Bowl with them. He is now a part of a revamped Texans offensive line and has a new contract to boot.
