The Tennessee Titans made a big move last week when they signed defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons to a record-setting three-year contract extension.
Ironically, this deal came on the heels of media reports speculating that Simmons could be traded, but instead, general manager Mike Borgonzi sent a message to both the league and the locker room. This is something that former Titans general manager Ran Carthon touched on in a SiriusXM radio interview.
“I think it was great for Jeff, just to get this deal done, especially with- I’m not going to call it luck, but what he’s had to endure with the organization,” Carthon said. “You know, hadn’t seen a ton of winning, hadn’t had big seasons or whatnot, and I know Jeff wants more than anything- Jeff wants to win and be part of a winner. But every week he shows up, every week they’re disruptive and terrorizing games.”
Although the Titans surprised many with the extension, it had been rumored on social media for most of the offseason, alongside a potential extension for Peter Skoronski. Now that the contract is wrapped up, Borgonzi can turn his focus to locking up Skoronski for the long haul.
