A two-year-old dog named Nazgul captured Winter Olympics glory in 2026 after somehow escaping onto the Milan Cortina course where a women’s cross country skiing event took place.
However, the story gets more wild after Nazgul’s owner has been revealed to be a former Olympic skier. Alice Varesco lives close to the Lake Terero course in Italy, but the former Olympian was completely unaware of how viral he dog became.
A Daily Mail story revealed that Varesco only found out about her dog after seeing he escaped on live television. The former Olympic skier thought that Nazgul was locked in his kennel, which ultimately wasn’t the case.

While Nazgul became an instant legend for the on-course run alongside Olympic athletes, Varesco was still concerned about her dog getting loose.
‘I was so embarrassed,’ Varesco told The Daily Mail. ‘When they told me he had escaped again after they caught him, I just thought, “Oh no, not again.”’
Regardless, the young dog became an instant furry face synonymous with the 2026 Olympics after going super viral across social media.
