A.J. Epenesa has found his next NFL home, as he's set to join a Super Bowl contender.
The former Iowa football star spent the first six years of his NFL career with the Buffalo Bills, who took him in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft. He compiled 24 sacks in Buffalo, to go along with five forced fumbles, four interceptions, and three fumble recoveries in 91 regular-season games. He never posted jaw-dropping statistics, but was a consistent player on a strong Bills defense.
And now he's set to move over to the NFC in pursuit of a ring. Epenesa has agreed to a deal with the Philadelphia Eagles.
Epenesa had originally agreed to a deal with the Cleveland Browns earlier in free agency, but a failed physical voided it. Now with a presumably cleaner bill of health, Epenesa joins a bona fide contender looking to win the Super Bowl in 2026.
As of now, Epenesa will compete for a depth role on the team. The Eagles have a pair of entrenched edge rushers in Nolan Smith and Jonathan Greenard. They run a 3-4 defense, meaning Epenesa will probably end up backing up those guys on the outside linebacker depth chart. Philadelphia could move him down to the defensive line if things don't work out in the linebacker room.
Epenesa will join fellow Hawkeye Cooper DeJean on the Eagles' defense. He's already turned in a solid six-year NFL career. Getting a chance with a contender like the Eagles could help Epenesa elevate his game to the next level. And maybe even end up with a Super Bowl parade in the process.
