FIFA president Gianni Infantino has sent condolences on behalf of the ruling body and football as a whole to those affected by the death of Ghana player Dominic Frimpong in an armed attack on the bus of his team.
Frimpong played for Ghana Premier League club Berukum Chelsea and the team bus was reportedly attacked by masked and armed men as they were returning from a match in Samreboi againsat Samartex on Sunday.
Players and officials fled into bushes to take cover but Frimpong died of gunshot wounds in the attack.
Infantino said late Monday on Instagram he was "deeply saddened by the tragic passing" of Frimpong.
"On behalf of the global football community and everyone at FIFA we send our condolences to his family, friends, everyone at Berekum Chelsea FC and all those who knew him," he said.
The BBC said that several over clubs in Ghana have reported similar attacks over the past years.
