According to recent reports, PSG are interested in signing Barcelona forward Ferran Torres, and many fans have reacted negatively to the potential move.
According to multiple reports, Luis Enrique’s objective with the potential signing is to replace Portugal international Goncalo Ramos, who joined AC Milan in Serie A for a record fee.
The general opinion among fans on social media is that pursuing a player with Torres’ profile is not worthwhile, especially given other alternatives, such as Bournemouth striker Eli Junior Kroupi, who has been consistently linked with the Parisian club throughout the summer.
However, there is one specific reason why PSG fans should not question the judgment of either head coach Luis Enrique or sporting adviser Luis Campos.
It is very simple.
Under the leadership of those two men, the club has won two UEFA Champions League titles, the only ones in the club's history.
There have been several signings that did not fully work out for Paris Saint-Germain despite appearing, on paper, to have the potential to become stars at the Parc des Princes.
One such example is Randal Kolo Muani, who, although still under contract with PSG, is no longer considered even as a rotational option by Luis Enrique.
There have also been players who arrived with a lower profile and at a more advanced stage of their careers, rather than as young prospects, and who ended up performing at a high level whenever they were needed.
Marco Asensio is a perfect example. He arrived from Real Madrid at a time when many PSG fans doubted the move.
Even so, Asensio became a valuable utility player for Luis Enrique during his time at the club, capable of playing as an attacking midfielder, a false nine, or a winger.
It appears Luis Enrique has a clear preference for versatile players who can perform in multiple positions, and Ferran Torres fits that description perfectly.
His natural position is on the wing, but with both Spain and Barcelona, he has also developed into a center forward, and that is likely the trait that most appeals to the Spanish coach.
For that reason, PSG fans should trust Luis Enrique’s judgment. After all, he is the coach who led the club to the greatest achievements in its history.
If things do not work out, that is where sporting adviser Luis Campos comes in.
Campos has consistently delivered in player sales. Whenever a player has failed to adapt, PSG have generally had little trouble finding a suitable exit.
Naturally, it is easier to sell players such as Goncalo Ramos or Lee Kang-in, who are still young and possess qualities that fit different tactical systems, than to sell someone like Marco Asensio, who was already in the later stages of his career, or Milan Skriniar, who was also an experienced veteran.
Even so, suitable moves were ultimately found for both of those players, who are now continuing their careers in Turkish football.
In addition, recent reports indicate that Kroupi is unwilling to accept a secondary role, even at Paris Saint-Germain.
As a result, PSG must look for alternatives who are willing to compete for a place in the starting lineup while accepting that, if they fail to meet expectations, they will need to work harder in training and, in the meantime, remain on the bench.
