Borussia Dortmund midfielder Felix Nmecha is favouring a move to Manchester United over Newcastle United should he leave Dortmund this summer. The Magpies see the dynamic German international as the ideal successor to Bruno Guimaraes, who is heavily linked with a big-money move to Arsenal. Newcastle are reportedly ready to step up their pursuit of Nmecha if Guimaraes departs St James’ Park. However, despite Newcastle’s concrete interest and financial resources, they face a significant obstacle: the player’s personal preference. According to BILD, Newcastle do not hold the strongest hand in negotiations because Nmecha is prioritising a move to one of England’s traditional giants. Specifically, Manchester United—along with cross-town rivals Manchester City—exert far greater pull on the midfielder. For Nmecha, the allure of Old Trafford and the chance to become a central figure in Manchester United’s midfield rebuild holds much greater appeal than a move to Tyneside. The 25-year-old is currently one of Europe’s most coveted midfielders, and Newcastle have entered the race to secure his services.
The competition for Nmecha is not limited to Manchester and Newcastle; continental heavyweights Real Madrid and Bayern Munich are also closely monitoring his situation. Despite the widespread interest, Borussia Dortmund remain relaxed about his future.
The Bundesliga club’s hierarchy, led by CEO Lars Ricken and Sporting Director Ole Book, holds all the leverage in this situation. Crucially, Nmecha signed a long-term contract extension in March, keeping him at Dortmund until 2030. As a result, Dortmund have set an astronomical price tag on their prized asset. Interested clubs will need to pay at least €120 million to bring Dortmund to the negotiating table.
