The San Francisco 49ers were the recipients of one of the easiest schedules in the NFL. But according to their disgruntled fans, the team's video unveiling their 2025 road map was hard to watch.
As has become a league trend these days, the Niners didn't just simply release a detailed list of their 17 games. Their social media team put together a cutesy video to unveil the schedule into a grand production.
This year's five-minute video featured a fan in a basement coming across a vintage arcade video game. When he starts "playing" it's a throwback to the 1980s in which "Sourdough Sam" and his trusty mule "Clementine" happen upon the team's opponents along the "Golden Trail."
The video-game player is given options as to how to handle each opponent - "Toss a fish" when approach by a flock of Seahawks, for example - as he makes his way through the schedule. The entire schedule isn't unveiled in totality until the 4:36 mark of the video.
To say the least, Niners fans were none too impressed with their team's efforts, as they responded to the video on the social media platform X with a barrage of NSFW comments. The video was viewed almost 300,000 times.
"Bro hire me to run your social media team this (expletive) is trash," wrote one commenter.
Said another, "This is terrible guys. You can do better than this. Who tf gave this idea the green light?"
"holy crap this is (expletive)," wrote one fan.
Added one more, "This was so pointless and such a waste of time sometime I’m actually embarrassed to be a fan of this team."
Some fans pointed out an attempted joke at the expense of the Atlanta Falcons and the city's mass transit "MARTA" bus system. But in the video the Atlanta bus is labeled "MARTHA," without an explanation or obvious punchline.
Many fans also expressed their frustration at not getting to see the Niners' new "Rivalries" uniforms which will be worn this season in a home game against an NFC West opponent.
"This was stupid drop the unis already," a fan commented.
