Team USA knocked off Mexico 5-3 on Monday night at Daikin Park in the 2026 World Baseball Classic, moving to 3-0 in Pool B despite playing without Will Smith and Clayton Kershaw.

Team USA has not officially punched its ticket to the quarterfinals yet, but beating Italy on Tuesday would lock up the pool and send them through.

USA-Mexico World Baseball Classic clash spills into stands

Though the bigger headline came from the stands, where a nasty brawl broke out between fans in the outfield section. A video that spread across social media captured a man in Mexico gear charging toward someone wearing Team USA colors before punches started flying.

Both landed clean shots during the exchange, and the fan in red, white and blue took a hard tumble down the stadium stairs during the chaos. The fight pulled in a bystander wearing an Aaron Judge jersey, who got knocked over from behind and went down a row of seats.

After getting back to his feet, the USA supporter connected with a left-side shot to one of the aggressors. Security eventually restored order in the section, though reports haven’t confirmed whether anyone was ejected or arrested.

Paul Skenes makes statement as Team USA holds off Mexico

Back on the field, Pittsburgh Pirates ace Paul Skenes delivered a strong debut for Team USA. The reigning National League Cy Young winner worked four innings, allowing just one hit while striking out seven batters.

The Americans broke things open in the third inning when Aaron Judge launched a two-run homer, then Roman Anthony followed with a three-run blast to push the lead to 5-0.

Mexico answered with three consecutive runs in the sixth. Jarren Duran connected on a solo homer and Joey Meneses added an RBI single to cut into the deficit. Duran went deep again in the eighth with another solo shot to make it 5-3, but Garrett Whitlock shut down the rally to preserve the win.

Italy sits at 2-0 in the group, setting up a decisive matchup on Tuesday that will determine who advances from Pool B.
