Tom Brady got New England Patriots fans in their feelings this week when he said he wasn't rooting for his old team in Super Bowl 60. Now, a former teammate is calling him out for it.
Four-time Pro Bowl cornerback Asante Samuel took to X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday night to express his discontent with Brady's stance. Samuel, Brady and Patriots coach Mike Vrabel played together from 2003-2007, so Samuel feels Brady owes Vrabel some loyalty as he marches toward an improbable Super Bowl appearance.
"Tom Brady I am highly I mean highly disappointed in you not rooting for your ex teammate, Mike Vrabel who is about to do something special," Samuel wrote.
To be clear, Brady isn't rooting for the Seahawks. He explained on the Let's Go! podcast he's purely rooting for "good football" because he doesn't "have a dog in the fight in this one."
Brady is in a tricky position here. As a minority owner of the Las Vegas Raiders and analyst for Fox, perhaps he's keeping his rooting interests close to the vest for professional reasons. Nevertheless, Samuel isn't happy.
"Brady you can’t be the only one winning super bowls," Samuel wrote. "Let me find out you hating on Drake Maye and Vrabel. 'I don’t have a dog in this fight' Not what I wanted to hear. Brady knows how I get down. This ain’t nothing new to him."
Between the Brady controversy and the Hall of Fame snubs for Bill Belichick and Robert Kraft, the Patriots have endured some turbulence before Super Bowl Sunday.
