Former national team defender Niklas Süle has joined a southern German club at the bottom of the German football pyramid after the end of his professional career.

District league side SV Tiefenbach said that Süle is joining their team for the new season.

"I’m really looking forward to finally experiencing football from a completely different perspective again – where it’s all about the sport itself and not about business or money," Süle said in a club statement.

"What’s more, two of my best friends play for SV Tiefenbach, one of whom is even a coach there. After 13 years of professional football, it’s a real treat for me to be able to take to the pitch with my mates and enjoy this wonderful sport to the full once again."

Süle, 30, said in May that he is ending his professional career which he started at Hoffenheim and which saw him win 49 Germany caps.

He joined Bayern Munich in 2017, winning five Bundesliga titles, two German Cups and the 2020 Champions League. He moved on to Borussia Dortmund in 2022 and ended his career there.
