The NBA world, not just the Boston Celtics, received devastating news on Tuesday afternoon. After Jayson Tatum fell to Madison Square Garden's floor during the fourth quarter against the New York Knicks on Monday night, the basketball world collectively held their breath.
It was confirmed by the Celtics on Tuesday that Tatum had suffered a torn right Achilles that required surgery. The surgery has already been performed and Tatum now finds himself on the road to recovery.
The play occurred with approximately three minutes remaining in the fourth quarter of Game 4 against the Knicks. After attempting to push off to go after a loose ball, Tatum went down without contact, writhing in pain on the floor.
Even with the Celtics, All-Star forward being sidelined for the indefinite future, some believe this deep Celtics roster still has a chance in the Eastern Conference Semifinals despite trailing the Knicks 3-1.
ESPN's Brian Windhorst made a bold statement on Tuesday, on "NBA Today", saying he's not ready to concede this series to the Knicks.
"First off, I am not giving this series to the Knicks just yet," Windhorst said.
Windhorst received curious looks from the other panelists on the "NBA Today" set, which included former NBA player, Danny Green, host Jorge Sedano, and Marc J. Spears. Windhorst went on to explain his reasoning behind his bold take.
"They were 8-2 this year when Jayson Tatum didn't play. They are loaded at the top end of the talent on their roster...I believe they will rally back from this."

The Celtics have one of the deeper, more talented rosters in the NBA. They won 61 games this season, the second most in the Eastern Conference. They also set the record for the most made 3-pointers in a single game as well as in the regular season.
The Celtics will have the chance to back up Windhorst's bold statement, and stay alive in this series, on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. EDT on TNT inside TD Garden.
