Harry Kane and Thomas Tuchel waved at waiting fans as England arrived at their World Cup home away from home in Kansas City.

The back-to-back European Championship finalists are among the favourites this summer and have been in the United States since the start of June preparing for their shot at glory.

England left their warm-weather training base in Florida on Saturday morning and took the 1,950-mile flight to Kansas City, where they hope to spend the next five weeks.

A couple of hundred people greeted them at their Inn at Meadowbrook hotel in the south of the city when the team arrived in the early afternoon on Saturday.

‘Good Luck England’ and a heart featuring the city’s initials read signs dotted along the road to the hotel, with ‘Welcome’ and an image of three lions on the other side.

A number of England shirts were visible in the waiting crowd, while Manchester City, Arsenal and Everton were among the clubs represented. One excited onlooker held a Real Madrid shirt up hoping to catch Jude Bellingham’s attention.

The England midfielder, skipper Kane, Morgan Rogers and Jordan Henderson signed autographs for some of those waiting as diehard fans mixed with welcoming locals.

Some paused bike rides, jogs and dog walks to catch a glimpse of the team, who were welcomed off the coaches by the Kansas City Chiefs’ band at their heavily-guarded hotel.

Police outriders led them to the hotel, where they will spend a few hours before Tuchel’s side train at their Swope Soccer Village base for the first time.

England are a short drive away from the facility used by Major League Soccer side Sporting Kansas City’s second team and are holding a community session at the venue at 5pm local time (2200 GMT).

Preparations for that were disrupted on the eve of the team’s arrival after equipment was discovered stolen ahead their first session in Kansas City.

The Football Association confirmed to the Press Association an incident had occurred but was unable to provide further information given it is now a police matter.

The Kansas City, Missouri Police Department said: “We are investigating a possible theft of equipment from a team vehicle that arrived in Kansas City with items missing (Friday) evening. The investigation is ongoing.”

Tuchel’s men open their World Cup campaign against Croatia on Wednesday before further Group L games against Ghana and Panama.

The team have had a day-and-a-half off following Thursday’s abridged behind closed doors match against Miami FC, which England won 6-0.

England handily beaten Costa Rica 3-0 in Wednesday’s storm-delayed friendly in the oppressive Orlando heat and last Saturday overcame New Zealand 1-0 in a Tampa workout.
