In the early days of John Harbaugh's tenure as New York Giants head coach, the organization is implementing significant changes to its medical and training staff.

Long-time head athletic trainer Ronnie Barnes, a Giants staple for over four decades, will transition from day-to-day operations to an oversight role within the department. A new head athletic trainer is expected to be hired, almost certainly with ties to Harbaugh's former Baltimore Ravens staff.

The move follows years of scrutiny over the Giants' injury record. From 2009 through 2021, New York led the NFL in man games lost to injury, contributing to consistent underperformance.

While current and former players routinely praise Barnes for his care and professionalism, fans have long called for his replacement, blaming the training staff for the team's persistent health issues.

This restructuring aligns with broader organizational shifts under Harbaugh, including the recent departure of long-time executive Kevin Abrams.

The changes signal an intent to import Baltimore's approach to injury prevention and management.
