New England Patriots executive vice president of player personnel Eliot Wolf admitted that he handled player disciplinary matters under Jerod Mayo's one-and-done coaching run.
It's one of the areas that has seen significant change since Mike Vrabel was hired as the head coach. According to Wolf, Vrabel has taken most of those responsibilities off his plate, and it led to a better overall experience for the Patriots' executive in 2025.
"I would say in 2024, handling some of the player discipline stuff was challenging," Wolf said on The McShay Show with Todd McShay. "And you're trying your best to keep it consistent, while also working with the coaching staff. So Mike kind of took over most of that this year. So that helped a lot. That was good."
Mayo was a first-year head coach hoping to learn and grow in the role, but the Patriots opted for a quick change after a 4-13 finish to the season, coinciding with Vrabel being available to hire.
Patriots owner Robert Kraft admitted that he put Mayo in an untenable situation given the poor state of the team, but he had to make a tough decision to get the team back on track. It obviously ended up being the right move with Vrabel stepping in, assembling an all-star coaching staff and leading the team back to the Super Bowl in Year 1.
