Former Germany player Stefan Effenberg has said that Oliver Glasner should also be a candidate for the national team coaching job after the resignation of Julian Nagelsmann.
Effenberg said in a column for the t-online portal on Saturday that Glasner "knows the business inside out and showed at his previous stops what he is capable of: Developing talented teams.
"I say: He could do it - and would be ready for it."
Glasner won the Europa League with Eintracht Frankfurt in 2022 and the Conference League with Crystal Palace in the past season. He has left the London club but according to multiple news reports is set to take the helm at another Premier League side in Nottingham Forest.
Glasner is Austrian, and Germany have never had a foreign coach.
The most likely candidate is former Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool coach Jürgen Klopp.
The German FA and Klopp have confirmed talks and Klopp said he was "ready" in principle to take over from Nagelsmann who resigned on Friday after a last 32 exit against Paraguay at the World Cup.
Other candidates are however also being mentioned, such as former Barcelona and Bayern Munich coach Pep Guardiola who has left Manchester City after a decade.
"I believe that Pep Guardiola and Jürgen Klopp fit in everywhere - every club team, every national team," former Germany defender Mats Hummels told MagentaTV.
"The two best coaches of the past decade, the past 17, 18 years worldwide in my view. That's why I could well imagine both of them."
