If there's one guy I trust around the NFL, it's Howie Roseman. Roseman, who has continued to prove that he can find talent at a very high level at any given moment, is hopeful that he did so in the NFL Draft once again with his fifth-round pick of Cole Payton.

Payton, who many might not know because he played college football at North Dakota State, has some impressive tools to be a potential guy who can come in and make an impact one day.

That isn't to say that he's going to do so anytime in the near future, but the five-year college guy threw for 2,719 yards a year ago and was also very good with his legs, adding another 777 yards and 13 touchdowns on the ground.

This is the exact type of player that Roseman has shown he's willing to take a chance on, and as a result, some are starting to think that the Eagles might have actually found a draft steal.

"I was looking at him as maybe a tight end before last year. I was surprised by how good he was at quarterback. But I don’t know how much of that was about the (low level of) competition. … That’s the key, right? Can he do it above (the FCS)? His size and arm strength are good. He was pretty accurate on that level. But his mechanics are off and he can be a mess under pressure. He waits too long on his receivers, and his first instinct is to always run. It’ll take time to coach that out of him. … He’s a gimmick guy for now.

“The Eagles are pretty smart. They’ll find surprising ways to use him. But he’s got a long way to go to be a quarterback in this league. … I just don’t know what’s there. He didn’t play enough (at QB). The (competition) level was too low. His skills are worth a flier, but it’s a flier,” a scout said of Payton, per Fox.

A gimmick guy for now is fair because we don't know how he looks in the NFL, but I don't think it's crazy to say that Payton might actually be a decent player one day in this league.

It's going to take some time for him to even get used to the speed of playing in the NFL, as he didn't play in the Power conferences and stuff like that, but he could be a fun player used in certain situations in the short and long term.
