While the Philadelphia Eagles’ offense has been the topic of conversation over the past year or so, many still seem to forget that this is one of the best defensive units in the NFL.

Because the Eagles weren't winning games at the level fans were hoping for, especially toward the back end of last season, a lot was forgotten about with this defense.

The Eagles' defense is still considered one of the best in the NFL by a wide margin, even if the other side of the football isn't doing what it needs to do.

That doesn't take away from what the Eagles have done, and a lot of that is because of what veteran defensive coordinator Vic Fangio has done for most of his career.

Fangio definitely has a lot of good defensive players on his roster to work with, but his schemes are some of the best in the world, and as a result, he typically has one of the best defenses in the league year in and year out.

There were some questions about Fangio potentially retiring in the near future, but he had a lot to say about that, admitting he has at least another two years before he decides what he wants to do.

"I wasn't close," Fangio said during a news conference regarding his possible retirement, per NFL.com. "I've had those thoughts the last few years. Every year at the end of the year, I just think about it. I never really got serious to where I would've done it. It's no different than I did after the '24 season, after the '23 season. I told the players the other day, we had our annual physical, we get physicals as coaches, and the docs told me I was reverse aging with my lab work and everything that came up. So, I told them you guys are stuck with me for a long while."

The success that Fangio has found on the defensive side of the football is backed up with his stats, as he's posted two top-five scoring defenses in his two seasons in Philadelphia.

“Fangio has orchestrated a top-five scoring defense in each of his two seasons with Philadelphia, and his unit became the saving grace of a team that never found its offensive identity during last year's ill-fated follow-up to its Super Bowl LIX victory,” Bobby Kownack of NFL.com wrote.
