Philadelphia Eagles defensive tackle Jordan Davis has not cranked out the kind of production the team has been hoping for since he was selected 13th overall in the 2022 NFL Draft.
That doesn't mean they are giving up on him just yet, though.
The Eagles have as of Wednesday exercised the fifth-year option on Davis this offseason, as first reported by FOX Sports' Jordan Schultz. Davis will be owed $12.9 million during the 2026 season and is eligible to negotiate a long-term deal as early as this offseason.
But ...
It's not in Philadelphia's best interest to do that. At least not yet.
Davis has recorded just 3.5 sacks and 41 tackles in three seasons with the Eagles. He has become more of a run-stopping defensive tackle (the same role he had at Georgia) due to issues with weight and endurance.
Once Vic Fangio was brought in as the defensive coordinator, Davis' playing time took a major dive during the 2024 season. Despite that, the former Bulldog product saw an improvement in his overall numbers throughout the team's playoff run.
He finished the season with a 65 pass rush grade by PFF and had a playoff grade of 90 in the playoffs. His role is expected to increase with the free agent departure of Milton Williams.
Davis needs to show he can be an every-down player if he wants the kind of lucrative long-term deal that is coming the way of his teammate Jalen Carter. Any increase in production from Davis will fundamentally change how the Eagles are attacked on defense.
At this point, though, the Eagles have bought another year to see how good Davis can become as a 25-year-old.
