Apr. 16—MITCHELL — Dakota Wesleyan men's golfer Dakota Munger was named the Great Plains Conference men's golfer of the week, the conference announced on Wednesday.
Munger, a freshman from Chamberlain, was victorious at the DWU Spring Invitational men's title at Lakeview Golf Course last week, the first victory of his collegiate career. He topped the leaderboard with a two-day gross score of 140, shooting 2-under-69 on Monday and an even-par 71 on Tuesday to win the event.
He placed first in a field of 48 golfers in the seven-team field. He also has an adjusted scoring average of 77.8 in 22 rounds this season.
Munger is also a member of the Dakota Wesleyan baseball team as a pitcher. He is tied for a team lead in games started with nine and has pitched a team-high 51 2/3 innings pitched in nine games played. He has a 1-5 record with a 5.05 earned-run average. He's also recorded 34 strikeouts on the season.
The DWU men's golf team will be back in action early next week on Monday, April 21, for the GPAC Championships, while the baseball team plays at Briar Cliff on Thursday, April 17.
