Duke target AJ Williams was the top player in the class of ‘28 until he announced that he would reclassify to the class of ‘27 on Tuesday.

As we saw in Istanbul this summer, Williams is a formidable rising talent. He’s got the potential to really be something. And at Peach Jam, he averaged 20 points, 8 rebounds, and shot 80% from the line.

Williams, a 6-8 forward, attends Eagle’s Landing Christian Academy, in McDonough, Georgia, just outside of Atlanta.

He’s being heavily recruited, naturally, with Duke, UNC, Auburn, BYU, UConn, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Illinois and Mississippi State being on his short list.

It’s hard to know his thinking obviously, and now cash is often the major factor, but that might rule out Auburn, Georgia and Mississippi State, where most NIL money is going to football, and Georgia Tech, which doesn’t have a big NIL budget. BYU has money to burn, presumably UConn does, and Duke and UNC aren’t hurting there. So if that’s his priority, you can rank schools on that basis (Georgia apparently has some spending now, too – check the second link below).

Or he might be someone who wants to stay closer to home, in which case, Georgia, Georgia Tech, and Auburn might be in the best situation.
