You can start buying tickets to Miami Dolphins games next season at Hard Rock Stadium.
Just don’t ask what date any game is played.
“For the first time ever, you can lock in Single Game Tickets before the official schedule is released,” the Dolphins wrote in an email to fans.
It’s not just a first for the Dolphins — no NFL team has tried selling tickets without a fixed date. It’s a trial balloon by the NFL and Ticketmaster to gauge how tickets might sell before the schedule is released, according to the Dolphins.
“Historic NFL Milestone: Early Ticket Access,” the NFL said in a release.
The NFL hasn’t announced a date for its schedule release. But the release date seems to grow later each year, and this is one way to start ticket sales. Other teams may join the Dolphins next season in putting tickets on sale early.
The lingering question is how many fans will buy tickets without dates? And what kind of fan? Maybe anxious Dolphins fans. But maybe the visiting team fans living in South Florida would be quick to do so as they’d be less inclined to care about the date since they have one chance to see their team.
The Dolphins have home games next season against AFC East rivals Buffalo, New England and the New York Jets plus Chicago, Detroit, Cincinnati, Kansas City and the Los Angeles Chargers. Two preseason games against unannounced opponents at Hard Rock Stadium are also for sale.
