The Miami Dolphins picked Oklahoma State running back Ollie Gordon II with the No. 179 overall selection in Round 6 of the 2025 NFL draft.

While the Dolphins hope they have a one-two punch for the foreseeable future in De'Von Achane and 2024 fourth-round pick Jaylen Wright, depth at running back was thin for the team after it cut ties with Raheem Mostert and allowed veteran Jeff Wilson Jr. to depart in free agency. While the team added Alexander Mattison in free agency, Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel made it clear earlier in the offseason that the team wasn't going to stop there.

"I feel extremely strong about who is in the room knowing it will grow by two to three people," McDaniel told reporters at the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine. "I’m excited to see how the room fills out knowing that we only have two under contract, but I’m very excited about those two and motivated to make that more than two."

Gordon was one of the most productive players in college football in 2023, earning the Doak Walker Award after racking up more than 2,000 yards from scrimmage and 22 total touchdowns. But his productive halved in 2024 with the running back finishing his last season with 1,059 yards from scrimmage and 14 touchdowns.

While both Achane and Wright offer elite speed, Gordon is more of a bruising back at 6'1, 226 pounds with 4.6 speed.
