If the Boston Celtics are going to trade star forward Jaylen Brown, The Ringer founder Bill Simmons has an opinion on who it will not be for -- and perhaps even what KIND of player it will not be for, to take it even further. On a recent episode of his eponymous podcast, Simmons shot down the hottest rumor tied to Brown for the second time in as many weeks.

"I keep saying it," he explained. "I don't think Boston's in on Giannis ... I think the reason to trade Jaylen would be to not want to have the two $70 million dollar guys in two years or 65 or whatever it is. So to just flip him into somebody else who then is going to want an extension (wouldn't make sense)."

Still, the Ringer head honcho has a hunch on who the Celtics might swap Brown for, if not Giannis or some other high-cap hit star.

Touching on moves the New Orleans Pelicans might make in their offseason retooling of a roster that was one of the worst record-wise last season, Simmons floated an intriguing name. "Trey Murphy, we assume he's probably going to get traded over these next three weeks," he said. "I think Boston is a possibility. We thought whoever lost this matchup was a possibility."

Whether this is wishcasting or that Simmons knows something we do not, Murphy does fit into the $27.7 million traded player exception once occupied by Nikola Vucevic. And perhaps Boston could even pull it off without trading Brown, adding some serious punch and future flexibility. The question is, of course, what New Orleans sees in such move, if anything.
