The Los Angeles Dodgers dropped their second game in a row on Wednesday, losing to the Miami Marlins as their season hits a bit of a rough patch.
Still, the team holds the second-best record in all of baseball and remains the favorite to win a third straight World Series championship.
“The Dodgers lost their three-game series against the Marlins, but they are still 20-11,” Dylan Hernandez wrote for the New York Post. “As inconsistent as they are, even after a 3-2 loss in the series finale on Wednesday, they remained in first place in the National League West, still a half-game ahead of the San Diego Padres.”

Los Angeles Dodgers’ World Series Hero Miguel Rojas Opens Door To Return After Retirement Decision
Though there have been some minor surprises here and there, the team is more or less meeting expectations after it added star players Kyle Tucker and Edwin Diaz to its roster following its second straight title last year. But even though a “three-peat” Dodgers championship this season wouldn't be much of a surprise, it evidently could motivate a head-turning change of heart for one of the team’s key players.
“Los Angeles Dodgers infielder Miguel Rojas will reconsider his decision to retire at the end of the season under only one scenario,” Ken Rosenthal reported for The Athletic. “‘If we three-peat,’” he said.”
Rojas announced his decision to retire at the end of this season shortly before Opening Day and he signed a one-year, $5.5 million deal with the Dodgers to return after serving as a World Series Game 7 hero, hitting a game-tying home run in the ninth inning of that game before the team went on to win it in extra innings.
At the time, it seemed like he would be content to hang up his spikes no matter how the Dodgers’ season unfolded. But now he has suddenly opened the door to a return, assuming the team makes good on its goal of capturing a third straight title.

Los Angeles Dodgers Veteran Miguel Rojas Could Return After Declaring Retirement: ‘I Can Still Play’
“When I made this decision to retire and play for one more year, it’s not because I felt I couldn’t play,” Rojas added, per Rosenthal. “I can still play. I can prepare to go and play shortstop for 100 games.”
At age 37, Rojas has maintained his role with the Dodgers, starting a handful of games at shortstop and at second base. In 44 at-bats so far, he has slashed a stellar .341/.375/.477 and the team values his ability to play several defensive positions, provide some energy off the bench and mentor younger players.
So, it seems as if the team could be interested in re-signing Rojas for another season moving forward, assuming he helps bring it a third straight World Series championship.
